Dave Portnoy and Barstool Sports Had an Historically Bad Showing on ‘Celebrity Family Feud’

Controversial sports media giant Barstool Sports is known for committing to the bit and, love or hate them, they did exactly that on the Thursday, July 23, episode of Celebrity Family Feud.

Team Barstool was shut out against Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg and his family, losing 543-0 for the biggest blowout in Celebrity Family Feud history. (For their efforts, the Flagg family won $25,000 for their charity of choice, the Ronald McDonald House.)

Barstool founder Dave Portnoy was joined by colleagues Ryan Whitney, Rico Bosco, Kirk Minihane, Jersey Jerry, and Stu Feiner on the show, with each contributing their own level of futility to the proceedings.

Portnoy, 49, had maybe the funniest answer of the night — and, to be fair, one that wasn’t half bad. The prompt was to “name something a player probably has that a regular guy might not.”

“A big d***,” Portnoy said without missing a beat.

Across the stage, Flagg’s family appeared incredulous, with Cooper, 19, only mustering a “wow.” His mom, Kelly Flagg, repeated “no way” several times as host Steve Harvey walked over to her.

“I’m so sorry, Ms. Kelly. I’m so sorry,” Harvey, 69, said. “It’s their last time on this show.”

Another highlight was when Whitney, 43, buzzed in to answer a prompt then froze up until his time ran out.

“They were good,” Whitney said after the show in a video shared via X. “I mean I didn’t have high expectations for myself personally, but I could have at least chucked out an answer.”

One moment of Barstool glory came when Minihane, 51, was asked what he would do if a TSA dog was making “a beeline for you at the airport.”

“I’d do what I always do, Steve,” he said. “Try and hide the drugs.”

To Harvey’s apparent surprise, “Ditch my bag/weed” showed up on the board, as Minihane repeatedly shouted “You can’t teach what I got.”

The Family Feud defeat is the latest humiliation in what has been a rough month for Portnoy. The diehard Boston sports fan just had to watch the New York Knicks win the NBA championship in dominant fashion, then got his hopes up for Team USA in the World Cup, only to throw his jersey in the trash when the team flamed out in the Round of 16.

“We’re a f***ing joke. That game was a f***ing joke,” he ranted in a video the day after the loss to Belgium. “These are country club, D-tier athletes we got out here.”

“I don’t want to hear that the future is bright for American soccer,” he later wrote via X. “That they should be proud. That was a disgusting effort. We’re far closer to the bottom than the top. Just not a soccer country.”
