The New England Patriots were not able to avenge their Super Bowl loss against the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, September 9, but that didn’t stop New England defensive end Dre’Mont Jones from trolling his opponents.

“Year 8. First NFL sack of the season. Gotta win the close ones but we will next time #gopats 🏈❤️💙,” he wrote via Instagram alongside a photo and video of his sack of Sam Darnold, which resulted in the Seahawks quarterback leaving the game with a hip injury.

It didn’t take fans long to notice that Jones, 29, tagged an account in the photo called “F***_the_Seahawks.”

Jones played for the Seahawks for two seasons in 2023 and 2024, before being released by the team in March 2025. He signed a three-year, $39.5 million contract with New England in March of this year.

Darnold, 29, sustained his injury during the opening drive of Seattle’s 13-10 season-opening win. Though his status for the Seahawks’ next game, September 20 against the Arizona Cardinals, is listed as “doubtful,” he appears to have avoided major injury.

“At this point, we are able to rule out a fracture,” head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters after the game. “So there’s some more tests to be done. … We’re still working through all that, but right now, I think fracture is out, which is great news.”

The next day, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added that the team believes it “got good news.”

“They believe this is not a significant injury,” he said. “The MRI is going to tell the story today. Certainly, an absence is possible. Short-term injured reserve [is] certainly something that would be in play.”

If Darnold is placed on short-term injured reserve, he will be required to sit out at least the next four games, making him eligible to return on October 15 against the Denver Broncos.

Despite the Seahawks seeming to have dodged the worst-case scenario, fans did not take kindly to Jones’ post.

“Just mad you got cut off a winning team because your not good enough for the dark side🤣🤣,” one fan wrote in the comments.

“Almost beat your sack total in Seattle in one game atta boy,” another fan added sarcastically. Jones replied to the comment with, “thank you bro.”

Jones also defended his decision to post the photo, telling another commenter, “I’m just trying to post a highlight. I hope Sam gets better he’s a great QB.”

The Patriots will look to get their first win of the season on September 20 when they host Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
