Zaire Wade, son of NBA Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade, was arrested and charged with a felony on Sunday, June 21, in Burbank, California, according to arrest records viewed by Us Weekly. NBC4 reports that he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.
Records show that police responded to a 911 call early that morning due to a woman who was allegedly screaming. Police found Zaire, 24, and the woman at the home, and the woman reportedly had “lacerations on her face and body,” according to NBC4.
Paramedics attended to the woman, who did not go to the hospital, while police arrested Zaire on suspicion of felony domestic violence, criminal threats and false imprisonment.
A handgun was also taken from the house and an emergency protective order was put into place, the outlet reports.
Zaire was released shortly before noon that day on $50,000 bond as the case heads to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for possible charges.
A former basketball player himself, Zaire played at Sierra Canyon School, which has produced dozens of college and pro players in the past, including Bronny James, Marvin Bagley and Juju Watkins. He did not attend college, instead opting to head to the G League, then overseas to continue his basketball career.
Dwyane, 44, has previously spoken glowingly of Zaire, crediting him and the rest of his family for helping him through kidney cancer in 2023.
“My son Zaire said to me, he was watching me walk to the bathroom, he was [saying] I’m Superman,” he said in a 2025 video that aired on Today With Jenna & Friends. “He never saw me that way before. It sounds crazy because those are the ones that are supposed to be there in those moments of weakness, but you don’t want them to see you in that space.”
Zaire was also by his sister Zaya‘s side when she came out as trans in 2020. He took to Instagram at the time, writing, “I’ve told you that I would lay my life down to make sure you are ten toes down and happy on this earth. I don’t care what they think Z, you are my best friend and I love you kid, and if it means anything, just know there’s no love lost on this side.”
Dwyane and ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches share Zaya, 19, in addition to Zaire. The former NBA champion and his current wife, Gabrielle Union, went on to welcome daughter Kaavia, 7, in 2018. He also shares his son Xavier, 12, with Aja Metoyer and was the legal guardian of his nephew, Dahveon Morris, 21.
