Guy Gaudreau, the father of late hockey stars Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, shared a message for his sons’ accused killer near the two-year anniversary of their deaths.

“Everyone’s life goes on but mine,” Guy, 69, told TMZ on Tuesday, August 4. “I will never get my sons back.”

Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, were struck and killed by alleged drunk driver Sean M. Higgins while riding bicycles in Oldmans Township, New Jersey on August 29, 2024.

Guy told TMZ that he has not forgiven Higgins, 44, and he’s not sure if he ever will.

In December 2024, Higgins was indicted on two counts of first-degree aggravated manslaughter, two counts of second-degree reckless vehicular homicide, one count of tampering with physical evidence (fourth-degree) and leaving the scene of a fatal accident (second-degree). He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Higgins does not currently have a trial date. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for September 16.

Guy’s wife, Jane Gaudreau, opened up about her grieving process in an exclusive interview with Us earlier this year.

“We could barely get out of bed in the morning and take a shower,” Jane recalled of the days after Johnny and Matthew died.

Jane added, “I don’t think people throughout the hockey world — throughout South Jersey to Columbus to Calgary —  I don’t think they realize how much they did for us. By them talking to us and bringing them into their world and seeing what they could do for us or how they could help keep John and Matty’s legacies alive, they just helped us so much with our grief.”

Johnny and Matthew died the night before their sister, Katie Gaudreau, was scheduled to get married. She opted to postpone her nuptials due to the family tragedy. Katie, 27, told Us about how the loss of her brothers impacted her parents.

“We didn’t just lose the boys that night,” Katie said in April. “We lost the boys and my parents. Losing a child is something that nobody should ever have to go through.”

Katie added, “This is a tragedy that I would never wish on my worst enemy,” she said. “Because of the support that we’ve gotten from everybody — not just in the United States and North America, but the people in different countries who have reached out — telling stories about the boys and the impact they’ve made, it really helped us to heal and to continue to heal.”

Katie and her husband, Devin Joyce, got married in July 2025. The couple welcomed their first child, son Matthew, in June.
