Mitchell Schwartz, who won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020, was just as shocked as many when his former team signed controversial kicker Justin Tucker to its practice squad.
“WHAT?!?” Schwartz, 37, shared via X after the news broke.
Schwartz then responded to a post from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, who said the Chiefs decided to sign Tucker, 36, on Wednesday, October 28, thanks to his “experience and resume.”
“Yes he has quite the resume Ian, thank you,” Schwartz wrote. “Shall we look at what the Google machine pulls up for the last couple years? Hmmm, 16 allegations of sexual misconduct, a 10 game suspension from the NFL, and a terrible 73% on FGs in 2024. I feel like this is a Norm Macdonald bit ‘wow that’s the first I’m hearing of this!’”
He added in a follow-up, “Also hilarious that in the original tweet he references the suspension but gives no mention of why there was a suspension or what Tucker did! Why are we hiding this?!?”
Tucker was given a 10-game suspension in June 2025 for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy after 16 massage therapists accused him of sexually inappropriate behavior during his time with the Baltimore Ravens. Tucker has denied the allegations.

Schwartz, an offensive tackle, played for the Chiefs for five seasons from 2016 to 2020. He played in just six games during the 2020 season after suffering a back injury. Kansas City released him in March 2021, just weeks after he underwent surgery to repair his injured back. He officially announced his retirement in July 2022 after sitting out the entire 2021 season.
Tucker was signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad on Wednesday as starting kicker Harrison Butker attempts to find his form during a difficult prolonged stretch.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked about the team bringing in Tucker on Wednesday.
“We have a lot of people that have kind of added in and out. I try not to get too high or too low on anything,” Mahomes, 31, told reporters. “I know [Chiefs general manager Brett Veach] and them do a great job of bringing great players in.”
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid defended the signing during a press conference on Wednesday.
“He’s done his suspension,” Reid said. “Took care of that business there. I’ll leave it at that for you.”
Butker, 31, is still expected to start when the Chiefs play the Denver Broncos on Sunday, November 1.
