Olympic freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy and finance executive Andrew Rigby are officially engaged.
“He said he’d think about it! 🥹💍,” Kenworthy, 34, wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, August 5, alongside photos from the proposal. The sweet snaps showed the athlete kneeling on one knee on a red blanket sitting on a gorgeous cliff overlooking the water.
The proposal took place off the coast of Mallorca in Spain, Kenworthy told People on Wednesday.
“We took a private dinghy from the pier at the St. Regis where we were having a cocktail by the beach at the Mar Sea Club. I told Andrew I was taking him on a little adventure. Once we got to the island we climbed off the dinghy and hiked up to the top of the cliffs,” he shared. “I organized for a picnic blanket to be waiting for us with a pitcher of margaritas — extra sweet because that’s how Andrew orders them. After the proposal, we got back on the dinghy — but instead of going back to the mainland, it took us out to a chartered boat.”
Kenworthy added that six of their close friends were “hiding” on the boat, waiting to celebrate.
Kenworthy, who won a silver medal in slopestyle in the 2014 Sochi Olympics, proposed to Rigby after two years of dating. The pair first crossed paths in 2016 while Kenworthy was in Sydney for a speaking engagement. They met “properly” at a mutual friend’s 40th birthday in Guadalajara, Mexico, in March 2024 and began dating soon after.
“We did long distance L.A. to Sydney for about a year, and then we both moved to New York together a year ago,” Kenworthy told People.
Rigby told the outlet that he had no idea what Kenworthy had been planning for his proposal.
“We’ve talked about this a lot obviously, but I thought this was just a relaxing vacation,” he shared. “To say I was shocked was an understatement. And then to see our friends there immediately after Gus proposed? Wow.”
He continued, “We just went to Berlin Pride to celebrate a friend’s 40th and then went to Amsterdam for World Pride. We had already made the plan to go to Mallorca at the end of our trip as a little decompression and it felt like the perfect opportunity for the proposal.”
Rigby’s ring is a platinum Cartier 1895 band in the 5mm width. Kenworthy has the same band in gold.
Kenworthy and Rigby went Instagram official in August 2024 when they documented their travels to New York. The fashion exec was by his now-fiancé’s side during the 2026 Milan Olympics, where Kenworthy represented Team Great Britain.
“Congratulations on your 4th Olympics! My heart is full of so much pride and love for you ❤️,” Rigby wrote via Instagram, sharing a photo of himself kissing Kenworthy on the cheek.
