The former University of Michigan football staff member who was found to be in a years-long “inappropriate relationship” with former head coach Sherrone Moore responded to the criticism she’s faced since coming forward.
During an interview on ABC’s Nightline, which aired on Friday, April 24, Paige Shiver was asked about being labeled as a “homewrecker” over her relationship with Moore, who has been married to his wife, Kelli Moore, since July 2015.
“I don’t think you really understand it until you sit down and think about everything,” Shiver said. “He was manipulating me from the beginning. He knew my heart. He knew how much I cared about people and he used it against me.”
She continued, “I obviously blame myself for falling into that, but at the end of the day he was very good at manipulating.”
Shiver said she didn’t know Sherrone, 40, was married for the “first month” of their relationship, which began in January 2022 when Shiver was an intern and Sherrone was Michigan’s co-offensive coordinator.
“At the time, I didn’t know his wife was pregnant,” Shiver alleged. “When I found out, I confronted him and he said, ‘Yes, you know, it is what it is. But we’re still getting a divorce.’”
Sherrone and Kelli never divorced and share three daughters: Shiloh, born in 2019, Solei, born in 2022, and Sadie, born in 2025.
Shiver claimed that Sherrone’s manipulation tactics permeated all aspects of her life.
“Here’s a man that had complete control over me — over my emotions, over my career,” he said. “He knew that and he used it against me.”
When Shiver went to the University of Michigan in December 2025 and admitted she and Sherrone had been in a relationship for years, she said the school expressed their support.
“They said, ‘We’re really sorry about everything that you went through. We’re here to protect you and help you through all of this,’” Shiver recalled.
However, Shiver alleged that her relationship with Moore was an “open secret” within the University of Michigan’s athletic department.
“They knew the things that he was doing to me and no one did anything about it,” she said. “It’s because they cared more about winning football games, not having another scandal and trying to protect the head coach. And that’s how it’s always been.”
Shortly after Sherrone was fired on December 10, 2025, he allegedly broke into Shiver’s apartment and threatened to take his own life in front of her.
Sherrone was initially charged with felony home invasion, misdemeanor stalking and misdemeanor breaking and entering, all of which were ultimately dropped.
In March 2025, Sherrone pleaded no contest to new misdemeanor charges of malicious use of a telecommunications device in context of a domestic relationship and trespassing. He was sentenced to 18 months probation, avoiding any jail time, earlier this month.
