Former CBS football analyst Tony Romo parted ways with the network on October 2 amid the fallout from his OWI arrest, but that wasn’t the only thing that didn’t go his way that day.

Romo, 46, was also disqualified from a golf tournament over a scoring controversy, according to Golf.com.

The outlet reported that the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback was attempting to make the cut at the Korn Ferry Tour in Oklahoma when he allegedly signed his score card with two discrepancies.

Romo was accused of signing off on shooting a 4 on holes 16 and 17 while his scoring marker, Brandon Rice, had recorded a 4 and 5, respectively. When another pro reviewed the scores, he concluded Romo actually shot a 5 on each.

Romo reportedly took responsibility for the error, but was automatically disqualified. He was not about to make the cut anyway, so the penalty was ultimately inconsequential beyond pouring salt in the wound of a very bad day.

CBS’ decision to cut ties with Romo came just over a month after he pleaded no contest to an OWI charge, stemming from his July arrest on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence. He had previously been on leave from the company.

“CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways,” the network said in a statement to Us on October 2. “We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward.”

Romo also released a statement expressing his gratitude for CBS and his plans to focus on his health moving forward.

“I’m proud of what I accomplished at CBS Sports over the last nine years,” he said. “I approached my role as a game analyst the way I’ve approached everything in my life – with a desire to win and be the best that I can be. I’m going to use this time to take a break, something I’ve never done before, and focus on my health and my family before moving on to my next opportunity. I am grateful for my time with CBS Sports and for the continued support of my family and friends, as well as the NFL community and fans.”

Romo also spoke specifically about his arrest in a post via Instagram in September.

“I own this completely,” he wrote. “Multiple back surgeries ended my career earlier than I expected and left me with constant, debilitating pain. That pain led to a dependence on pain medication, and my efforts to get off those medications led to an over-reliance on alcohol.”
