Tony Romo has withdrawn from one of his favorite events in the aftermath of his arrest for alleged intoxicated driving last week.
Romo, 46, will not play in this week’s M&P Group Texas State Open in Tyler, Texas, according to KETK News. The tournament begins on Tuesday, July 28.
The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback has competed multiple times in the event over the years.
Romo was arrested on Thursday, July 23, on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence, according to an arrest report obtained by Us.
He was pulled over in Milwaukee around 8 p.m. after playing in the 2026 Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament. Romo, who grew up in Burlington, Wisconsin, also competes in the tournament frequently.
Romo allegedly failed field sobriety tests before being taken into custody. He has a court date scheduled for September 21.
The former NFL star has not publicly commented on his arrest.
Romo spent 13 seasons in the NFL from 2004 to 2016, all with the Cowboys. Since retiring, he has worked alongside announcer Jim Nantz on CBS Sports’ top NFL broadcasting crew.
Us has reached out to CBS Sports for comment on Romo’s arrest.
Before his arrest, Romo gave an interview to NBC26 Wisconsin about the tough conditions at the tournament, which was held at West Bend Country Club in West Bend, Wisconsin.
“It is as tough as you are going to play I think in almost any golf tournament,” Romo said. “You get the best guys around, the competition, and then the people who work with the [tournament] — they’re just really special people.”
He added, “This is a true test this week, each area of your game. It is going to show your weaknesses because you do have to use everything.”
In comparing his football career to his golf aspirations, Romo said he’s “competitive in both.”
“I am just better at football,” he admitted. “But I think we are gaining strides.”
Romo finished in a tie for 73rd place at the tournament at 35-over. His worst score of the week, 82, came on the day of his arrest.
Romo and his wife, Candice Crawford, have been married since May 2011, and the couple share three sons: Hawkins, 14, Rivers, 12, and Jones, 8.
Weeks before his arrest, Romo and Crawford, 39, attended the July 3 wedding of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
Days later, Romo hit the course in Lake Tahoe at the 2026 American Century Championship. In an exclusive video captured by Us, he was seen walking the links with his brother-in-law, actor Chace Crawford.
Romo finished in 6th place at the American Century Championship.
