Tony Romo scored an invite to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding after making multiple viral comments about the newlyweds’ relationship.
Romo, 46, and his CBS Sports broadcast partner, Jim Nantz, were in attendance at Swift and Kelce’s nuptials at Madison Square Garden on Friday, July 3, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio.
In December 2023, before Swift and Kelce, both 36, were even engaged, Romo insinuated that the pair had already walked down the aisle.
“As you see, Kelce’s wife, Taylor Swift, in the audience,” Romo said during a Kansas City Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills.
Romo laughed and said, “I’m sorry, girlfriend.”
The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback repeated the gaffe two weeks later during the Chiefs’ Christmas Day game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
“His wife loves it — I mean girlfriend,” Romo said after Kelce made his 900th career reception.
Romo later claimed that his on-air mistakes weren’t really even flubs at all.
“I did, kind of, play with the fans. I think I was like, ‘And there’s…’ I think I said, ‘his wife,’” Romo said in January 2026 on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up. “I did that on purpose and people were like, ‘Do you know something?’ I was like, ‘Nah, I just wanted to make you guys think for a second [and] just mess with you a little bit.’”
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly in May 2025 — three months before Kelce and Swift announced their engagement — Romo argued that the A-list couple’s relationship was being misconstrued by some fans.
“People won’t even realize this, but he’s probably doing less than he used to when he was younger,” Romo said. “If you get your picture taken going to dinner with your superstar girlfriend, it looks like you’re going out or something. No, he just went to dinner. Almost as if he’s married, going to dinner with his wife or something. He didn’t get photographed when he was going out with his buddies all the time.”
Romo added, “He’s far less out there. He’s doing far less things than when he was younger. It’s just the fact that if you’re written about a lot and it’s not about football, some people are always going to think that it plays a role. But the truth is that it can be a net positive if you look at it closely.”
Kelce will soon turn his attention back to football as he prepares to return for his 14th NFL season this fall. If he decides to follow in Romo’s TV footsteps once he retires, Florio reported that Kelce could earn $40 million per year “easily.”
