An ongoing lawsuit involving Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes’ steakhouse in Kansas City, Missouri, has taken a new twist before the start of the NFL season.
In new court documents obtained by Us, a sneaker company that is suing Kelce and Mahomes’ 1587 Prime pushed back at the assertion that the Kansas City Chiefs stars are not official members of the LLC used to launch the restaurant in September 2025.
1587 Sneakers sued Mahomes, 30, Kelce, 36 and their business partners, Noble 33, for trademark infringement in February. The lawsuit alleges that the steakhouse’s name – a combination of Mahomes and Kelce’s jersey numbers – infringes on their use of the identical combination.
The football stars have claimed they have direct evidence to prove that they hold no direct interest in and are not authorized to exert control over the restaurant, according to the docs. Kelce and Mahomes have moved to dismiss the case.
The sneaker company, however, isn’t buying it. In the new court docs, Mahomes and Kelce are accused of painting themselves as “two distant celebrities that are mere promotional ‘pretty faces’ of the alleged infringing enterprise with no New York ties.”
For now, the case remains ongoing.
The lawsuit comes as Mahomes and Kelce are in training camp, preparing for the 2026 NFL season.
The upcoming campaign is a big one for both players, with quarterback Mahomes returning after suffering a season-ending torn ACL last year and tight end Kelce likely to retire after the season.
“It’s going good. It’s a long process,” Mahomes said of his recovery July 15 on Yahoo! Sports Daily. “I think that’s what I’ve learned throughout this entire thing. All I can do is be as great as I can be every single day. You just have to maximize that day and then slowly get better and better as the year goes on.”
He continued, “Now it’s just about trying to continue to do that so that I’m ready to go whenever the season comes around.”
Mahomes said he was on track to start when the Chiefs open the regular season at home against the Denver Broncos on September 14.
“I can’t predict the future and I know that it’s a long process,” he acknowledged. “It’s not just my decision. But at the same time, I’m going to give the doctors and the coaches every single opportunity they can to let me be out there Week 1. I don’t want to miss that game.”
