New details have emerged surrounding the domestic violence arrest of Zaire Wade, the eldest son of Basketball Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade.

Zaire, 24, was arraigned in a Pasadena, California courtroom on Thursday, July 16, where prosecutors revealed they found and confiscated an unregistered gun in his home during the arrest, according to LA Magazine.

Zaire pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of “injuring a cohabitant, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend or child’s parent,” stemming from an alleged incident on June 21. Police were called to a Burbank residence at the time with a report of a woman who was screaming. A woman at the home reportedly had “lacerations on her face and body,” according to NBC 4, and paramedics attended to her at the scene.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman alleged in a complaint that Zaire “willfully inflicted corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition” upon the victim, whose identity has not been revealed.

The court also granted the alleged victim an emergency protection order, requiring Zaire not to contact her and to surrender all of his firearms.

Zaire has been released on bond and is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on September 24.

“He was arrested and booked for domestic violence, criminal threats and false imprisonment,” a spokesperson for the Burbank Police said in a statement at the time.

Dwyane, 44, has not addressed his son’s arrest publicly as of Friday, July 17. The father of four also shares daughter Zaya, 19, with ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches. He and his current wife, Gabrielle Union, welcomed daughter Kaavia, 7, in 2018. He also shares his son Xavier, 12, with Aja Metoyer.

Dwyane previously lauded Zaire for helping him navigate kidney cancer treatment in 2023.

“My son Zaire said to me, he was watching me walk to the bathroom, he was [saying] I’m Superman,” Dwyane said in a 2024 appearance on Today. “He never saw me that way before.”

He continued, “It sounds crazy because those are the ones that are supposed to be there in those moments of weakness, but you don’t want them to see you in that space.”

Zaire also publicly supported Zaya when she came out as trans in 2020.

“I’ve told you that I would lay my life down to make sure you are ten toes down and happy on this earth,” Zaire wrote via Instagram at the time. “I don’t care what they think Z, you are my best friend and I love you kid, and if it means anything, just know there’s no love lost on this side.”
