Names: Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler

Occupations: Creative director, Barneys New York (Doonan); designer, home and lifestyle entrepreneur (Adler); authors

Costume ball: Doonan, who has an Oct. 31 birthday, designed a line of chic Halloween costumes for Target this year. He and husband Adler, the city's first couple of groovy fashion and fun, intend to step into the spaghetti and meatballs in style. "Yeah, the guy is the meatball," explains Doonan. "My legs are better than Jonny's, so I'm going to wear the dress."

Fall favorites: For Adler, Jonathan Adler with 7 for All Mankind white cords, bright orange canvas Ralph Lauren sneakers, and a vintage belt with a gigantic brass key buckle. Doonan always invests in a Moncler puffer jacket when the weather turns ("It has a certain hip-hopness that appeals to my deluded side"). For women? "Have a Celine moment."

Star powers: "I totally appreciate people like the Situation for going for it. But that ain’t how I roll. I like Wes Anderson's look. So really, it's Wes Anderson and the Sitch," says Adler, a New Yorker for more than 20 years. Doonan salutes the style of the Gossip Girl boys, "sort of the first generation of actors who allow themselves to be fashionable off-camera as much as on. It's no longer about compromising your masculinity to be stylish."

"I once left my apartment in New York at 2:00 in the afternoon dressed up like the Queen of England — the whole getup, sash, crown, hat, everything. My doorman just opened the door for me and asked, 'Do you want your mail now or when you come back?' Really people don't care, no one's keeping score. It's a fantastically exhibitionistic town."
