One word: swoon.
Working one of the most intricate double French braid updos we’ve seen in a minute, Amanda Seyfried stepped out to premiere her latest film, While We’re Young, in NYC on Monday, March 23.
The 29-year-old actress teamed her ladylike, crimson Valentino dress and matching red sandals with the edgy updo, courtesy of celeb hairstylist Renato Campora.
“When I saw Amanda’s dress, I knew I wanted the hair to feel youthful, playful, and innocent,” Campora, who’s also crafted some of Katy Perry and Jessica Chastain‘s best hairstyles, told Us Weekly. “I decided on French braids, but still wanted to maintain a bit of sophistication and structure.”
Most miraculous of all, Seyfried told Us that the style only took Campora 40 minutes to create! “He showed me a picture of a model wearing something similar to the style, and I said, ‘Yeah, cool!'” said the blonde beauty. And that was that.
According to Campora, the woven style is not only romantic, but pretty easy to recreate: First, make a middle part from the top of the head to the nape of the neck, creating two pieces. Then, work a molding wax throughout for texture and hold. (Campora used Oribe Rough Luxury Molding Wax on Seyfried.)
After that, begin plaiting a French braid with one of the halves. The key, the stylist said, is to start by using small pieces of hair, so that the braid lays flat on the head, gradually building up the size of the braid by pulling larger and larger sections as you go down.
Once the braid is complete, secure it with a tie, then repeat on the other side. Both braids can then be looped into small buns and pinned in place. Finish your carefully crafted style with hair spray so it doesn’t budge, and voila!
