Anne Hathaway was 16-years-old when she walked her first red carpet on Dec. 8, 1999, at the Billboard Awards. Her dark hair had been curled for the occasion and hung in ringlets around her face. Her lips had been painted in that dark brownish-red color so ubiquitous in the '90s.
Now look at her! Hathaway sheared off her hair for her role as impoverished Fatine in Les Miserables in April of last year and, today, it's grown into a gorgeous, chic pixie that's catapulted her from pretty starlet status to haute couture goddess.
Who knew the on-the-job sacrifice would translate into such a style boon (not to mention an Oscar nod)? At the time, Hathaway said she was "inconsolable" after chopping off her tresses. "[I was] a mental patient level of crying…." she revealed on Live! With Kelly.
No tears now! At this year's awards circuit, Hathaway's hairstyle has been flawless — and surprisingly versatile for a short style. The actress wore her bangs down and elegantly swept to the side for an Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon, parted far to the side and off her forehead for a clean look at the SAG Awards (above), and completely brushed back in a bouffant style for the Producer's Guild Awards.
