1. Pharrell Williams‘ Hat
Come on, it’ll make you happy. Recreating the music producer’s Grammy Awards 2014 ensemble is quick and simple. To get the look for less just buy a cheap version of the eye-catching Vivienne Westwood hat that he wore. (Think Harry Potter’s sorting hat at your local Party City!) Wear a white T-shirt, a red Adidas jacket, and don’t forget to make a pit stop at the Arby’s drive-thru before trick-or-treating. Holding onto a sandwich while going door-to-door will add to the hilarious look.

2. Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey
It’s inevitable. This year has been all about the film adaptation of E.L. James‘ erotic novel — which doesn’t even hit theaters until 2015! Fans of the books have swooned over Jamie Dornan’s portrayal of Christian Grey in its trailer, and some have been taken by Dakota Johnson’s innocent portrayal of Anastasia Steele. The costume will work perfect for couples, and won’t take long to put together. All Steele needs is a cute (and appropriate!) skirt and soft cardigan. Grey can wear a business suit and ahem, carry dirty props.

3. Angelina Jolie’s Wedding Veil
Get out the crayons and sewing machine! Angelina Jolie’s surprise wedding to Brad Pitt was almost topped by the bride’s own veil! The superstar opted to feature colorful drawings created by the couple’s six kids when she walked down the aisle in France on Aug. 23. The embroidered headpiece is a Halloween costume all on its own, so use your imagination and feel free to create your own designs too.

4. ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
Just keep the hype going! One of the biggest “everyone is doing it” moments this year was throwing ice over one’s head to raise awareness (and money) for Lou Gehrig’s disease. And let’s face it — the entire ensemble can come right from the garage. The bucket itself makes a great treat holder, too. But be sure to skip the freezing water while snagging candy. (Check out the celebrities who accepted the ALS challenge for a good cause here and here.)

5. “Anaconda” Attention!
One of the most memorable music video looks of the year belongs to Miss Nicki Minaj. Like Miley Cyrus‘ “Wrecking Ball” and VMAs attire in 2013, Minaj came out with her own bare look that left a lasting impression. To keep it PG, however, cover up the pink G-string and wear the shimmering green getup she performed in at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

6. Divergent Duo
Harry Potter and The Twilight Saga have been done — so on to the next! Veronica Roth’s best-selling YA novel gained an even larger fan base this year, especially following its film adaptation release in March. Dressing up as its leads Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) would be the perfect couple costume while making the party rounds. Wear black and anything leather and look online for temporary Divergent tattoos that the characters bear on their necks and backs.

7. Ariana Grande
No problem here! The 21-year-old singer has 19.1 million Twitter followers, and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Like Gwen Stefani’s red lipstick and Lady Gaga’s outrageous outfits, Grande has a go-to look whenever she steps out in public. To look like Big Sean’s GF, just wear your hair half-up, rock a short dress and black mascara, and throw on white knee-length platform boots.

8. Viral Newcomers
Not sure what to dress up as for Halloween? A simple Google search may help! Some of the biggest, most viral stories this year came from ordinary people. Options for costumes could include Jeremy Meeks, aka “Hot Mugshot Guy,” (bald head and tear mark on your face), the woman from Florida with three breasts Jasmine Tridevil, (wear a bra with extra cushion outside your clothing), and Human Barbie, Ken, and Jessica Rabbit. Dress the part with the correct makeup, but don’t go to an extreme! Note: These probably won’t be on trend next year!

9. Taylor Swift Plus Cat
What a purr-fect idea! “Shake It off” if you don’t have an outfit picked out just yet, because this is your answer. Dressing up as Swift would be easy, fashionable, and fun! All that’s needed is a plaid skirt, a possible bold lipstick color and yes, a white stuffed animal cat that resembles her kitty Olivia Benson. Bonus: All of your friends can dress as her celebrity BFFs like Lorde, Karlie Kloss, Lena Dunham, Emma Stone, and Selena Gomez.

10. Ellen DeGeneres‘ Oscars Selfie
Think of the Facebook profile costumes for inspiration! Instead of sticking your head in a cardboard box that looks like your Facebook homepage, celebrate Halloween with stars like Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lawrence, and Bradley Cooper. Enlarge and print the epic selfie the A-listers posed for at the Oscars this year and make a cutout to stick your face in.
