Fashion’s finest! Marc Jacobs, Mansur Gavriel and Beyoncé were the big winners at the CFDA Fashion Awards at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC on Monday, June 6.
Marc Jacobs was awarded the Womenswear Designer of the Year prize, beating out Joseph Altuzarra for Altuzarra, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler, Kate Mulleavy and Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte and Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen for The Row. Meanwhile, Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel of Mansur Gavriel picked up the Accessories Designer of the Year award. They were up against Irene Neuwirth, McCollough and Hernandez for Proenza Schouler and the Olsens for The Row.
Perhaps most excitingly of all, Beyoncé won the Fashion Icon Award. Not only did the “Formation” singer, 34, continue to impress on the red carpet this year — including at the Met Gala 2016, where she rocked a bold floral latex Givenchy dress — but she also launched her first clothing line, Ivy Park, with H&M in April.
Other winners, many of whom sipped on Perrier-Jouët champagne, include Thom Browne, who won Menswear Designer of the Year, Brandon Maxwell (Lady Gaga‘s stylist-turned-top designer), who won the Swarovski Award for Womenswear, Paul Andrew, who won the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design, Norma Kamali, who won the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, and the late David Bowie, who was honored with the Board of Directors’ Special Tribute Award.
