Bold move! Actress Chloe Grace Moretz isn’t afraid to go barefaced. The 21-year-old California native just joined five global muses to appear without makeup for SK-II’s #BareSkinProject, an initiative with an “unfiltered take on beauty.” The statement-making movement, which the Japanese beauty brand unveiled on June 8, aims to prove that women can be comfortable in their own skin and happy to show off their naked glow.

But going bare isn’t something new for Moretz. In fact, she tells Us, “I spend most of my days with absolutely no makeup on. It’s always been very important to me to get my skin to a level where I can feel confident without wearing makeup.” She credits a healthy lifestyle for giving her the green light to ditch the foundation, including getting lots of sleep (she goes for eight hours), drinking tons of water (never soda or carbonated drinks) and eating whole foods (she loves to cook for herself when she’s not working.)

And then there’s the skincare routine. The Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising actress has long used SK-II’s Facial Treatment Essence, the mildly exfoliating potion that contains the ingredient pitera, derived from sake, which was famously found to smooth the hands of sake makers. But her angelic, even glow is as much about what she doesn’t use as what she does. Instead of traditional soap and cleansers, Moretz revealed to Us that she washes her face (only once a day, at night) with olive oil or honey. “Simplicity is key for me,” she says.

Moretz joins stars Chun Xia, Kasumi Arimura, Mayu Matsuoka, Ni Ni and Tang Wei to pose without makeup for Magnum photographers as part of the #BareSkinProject movement. Each woman will also document their journey to “crystal clear skin” in short films on SK-II’s instagram account and on youtube. Moretz’s film debuted June 29, check it out above!
