Can you hear the bells?! While Downton Abbey‘s final season is almost upon Us (the premiere airs on Jan. 4 on PBS), it’s already airing in the UK, and those Brits are in for a special treat this Sunday, Oct. 4, because…
Spoilers ahead—if you don’t want to know, look away now!
It’s true: Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes are getting married in Downton’s sixth and final season! Even better, the first wedding photos hit the web on Oct. 1, and while ITV won’t share them with American outlets just yet, the Brit web is understandably thrilled. (Click here if you simply can’t wait until the season premieres to see!)
Housekeeper Mrs. Hughes (who’s actually never been married) dons a lilac, tea-length frock as her wedding dress, topped with a plum-hued velvet coat boasting stunning floral lace and beading. She’s also wearing a pastel hat, matching gloves, and metallic Mary Jane pumps.
Her husband-to-be, head butler Mr. Carson, looks equally dapper, all gussied up in a three-piece gray suit, teamed with a printed blue tie and leather shoes. Though the older gent is famously stuffy, he’s rocking an adorably huge smile in the pics!
Of course, theirs isn’t the only wedding in Downton history. Let’s take a walk down memory lane, shall we?
Mary married Matthew (RIP, sniff!) in Season 3. The bride wore an ivory column dress with lace details and sheer sleeves, paired with a diamond tiara and a sweeping train.
That same season, Edith also donned white, to tie the knot with Sir Anthony Strallan. Though he abandoned her at the alter—poor Edith!—she stunned all the same, walking up the aisle in a draped dress with floral embroidery, not to mention a gorgeous lace veil, which she later, famously, flung off the Abbey staircase. (The feels!)
And finally, Lady Rose said “I do” just this past season in two fabulous dresses—a pastel-blue frock with embellished shoulders for the courthouse, then a white gown with top-to-bottom gold beading for the afterparty. She finished the second ensemble with opera gloves and her namesake pinned behind one ear.
