What happens when you hit the red carpet in the same exact outfit as an A-Lister? Well, celebrity stylist Elizabeth Stewart lived to tell the tale. The sartorial shepherd to some of Hollywood’s best and the brightest (not to mention chicest) hit the red carpet at the 2018 InStyle Awards sponsored by Fiji in L.A on Monday, October 22, wearing the exact same suit as her client, none other than Julia Roberts.
The look in question: matching lilac Givenchy suits (a subtle nod to another nominee of the night, Clare Waight Keller) with pink shirts and white flatform oxfords. And the duo’s bags? Not an exact match but the same chain-handle style, in different colors. Also in the mix: coordinated Jacquie Aiche amethyst necklaces! This, of course, was the perfect styling decision because both ladies were honorees that evenings. Roberts was the 2018 InStyle Awards Style Icon, while Elizabeth Stewart was honored as Stylist of the Year.
But not only was the showing of the duo adorable (who doesn’t love to twin with their bestie?), but Roberts and Stewart had a sense of humor about the move that might have previously been considered a faux pas. In Roberts’ acceptance speech she poked fun at herself and her public appearances throughout her career saying, “There is a lot of irony and humor which is what I live for in giving an actor a Style Award because you know, when you’re popular and tall, you just have these incredibly smart people come to your house with racks of stunning things. And so this award is for being good at saying, ‘I think that one.’ I’m the pointer. I win for pointing at the right stuff.”
Roberts also made a quip about her matching look with Stewart in her speech, clarifying her status as the “pointer,” “ That is honestly the whole thing because I never go shopping, I did not purchase this — though I love it. And I will claim all responsibility, Clare Elizabeth Stewart. I just said I wanted to wear these shoes, and that makes me somehow great in a very pretend way.”
