Katie Holmes was the Belle of the Ball on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala in New York City! The brunette beauty, 35, wore a canary yellow off-the-shoulder Marchesa gown, which immediately sparked comparisons to the iconic Disney princess Belle from Beauty and the Beast.
"Oh so that's what happened to Belle after years of captivity in the castle with the beast #Metball2014 #KatieHolmes," @_monsieuryates tweeted.
"I mean obviously I did Katie's #MetBall look like a hundred times better," the popular blog Suri's Burn Book tweeted, referencing a throwback picture of Holmes' daughter Suri Cruise in a Belle costume.
The Dawson's Creek star didn't reference the princess on the red carpet, but she did gush to Us Weekly about her dress which she picked off the runway.
"I feel amazing!" she declared. "I love the color, and I love the romance of it, and I love the embroidery. They do such beautiful embroidery, and I feel of a different time in it."
Despite wearing more than $2 million in Harry Winston yellow diamond earrings and a giant ring, Tom Cruise's ex kept her neck clear of jewels.

"I feel like I really wanted to celebrate this beautiful dress and not take away from it," she explained to Us.
