You don’t need to sit by the ocean to appreciate these beachy waves! With its textured tousles, Lea Michele rocked the perfect summer ponytail at the 2016 Fox upfronts on Monday, May 16, in NYC — and Us Weekly has the breakdown from her stylist.
“We were inspired by the structure and shape of the [Solace London] turtleneck dress,” celebrity hairstylist Sarah Potempa tells Us. “We wanted a textured, beach-waved ponytail with a lot of movement. Plus, it was windy out and [the event was in] Central Park, so the ponytail was perfect!”

To re-create Michele’s exact style, the pro, who also works with Kaley Cuoco and Mandy Moore, recommends using her Beachwaver S1.25. To achieve that natural texture, curl your hair but leave the ends out.

Then, brush your hair up into a ponytail at the crown of your head. Secure with a band, then wrap a small piece of hair around the band to hide it, pinning it in place. Spray hair with Aussie Sprunch Mousse + Leave-In Conditioner to hold the waves in place, then lightly pull pieces from the top of the pony and tease for volume.
