There occasions where you want a simple black eyeliner look and there are others where you want to take your eye makeup to the next graphic level. In that second category? The upgraded graphic cat eye Lily Collins wore to the 2018 InStyle Awards sponsored by Fiji, on Monday, October 22.
At its core the makeup was a Girls’ Night Out must, thanks to the genius handiwork of of celebrity makeup artist Fiona Stiles. Stiles took an intensely pigmented black liquid liner with a fine precision point to create the elevated winged eye. Not only was the line along the upper lashes drawn on extra thick to create a rounding effect on Collin’s eyes, but it almost reached the crease at the outer corner when her eye was open. Then for balance, Stiles very finely lined into the inner corner down onto the lower lashes just a touch for an almost hooked wing effect.
But the next-level vibes, they didn’t stop there. Stiles then made the flick of the liner super unique by removing a bit of it — almost as if the triangular tip had broken off and was floating on Lily’s brow bone. And the beauty pro gave a tip for achieving the statement in an Instagram post, too. Her advice: “Some people use makeup remover to clean up liquid liner but I find it too wet. My preferred method is moisturizer on a teeny tiny cotton bud to create razor sharp lines.”
