From Cinderella to the Little Mermaid!
Lily James, star of the upcoming live-action Cinderella, has been modeling princess-perfect blonde locks since she first popped up as Lady Rose MacClare on Downton Abbey in season four. But thanks to a salon trip between Monday and Wednesday, it looks like the actress is throwing her lot in with another Disney heroine: Ariel!
James, 25, who is actually a natural brunette, debuted strawberry blonde tresses at the Disney film’s Milan photocall on Wednesday, Feb. 18. She styled her freshly dyed locks into a low ponytail, pulling a few tendrils loose to softly frame her face.
Perhaps aiming to amp up her sultry new hair hue even more, the breakout star donned a sleeveless crimson dress, which she teamed with strappy Christian Louboutin “Viennana” heels (which of course also boast red soles).
On the red carpet at the photocall, James joined her on-screen Prince Charming, Game of Thrones‘ Richard Madden, who opted for a navy gingham suit.
Speaking to The Guardian, Madden said that he loved the film’s script because of its feminist take on the classic tale. “The original animated version was much more about this boy who comes to save the day, and this version is so not like that,” the actor shared. “It’s the strong girl by herself and a young man coming together that makes the story, rather than a far more sexist view.”
