What to wear for your first solo engagement with the Queen of England, who also just so happens to be your grandmother-in-law? For Meghan Markle, it involves the same designer she wore to become part of the family: Givenchy Haute Couture.
The newly-minted Duchess of Sussex stepped out with Queen Elizabeth on Thursday, June 14 for the Royal visit to Cheshire wearing a sleek and tailored bespoke beige belted shift dress with a structured crop-cape bodice designed by Clare Waight Keller. The frock was simple and elegant, very much in line with Markle’s signature style. And much like her first wedding gown that she wore to say her vows, the dress reflected a pared-down minimalism that reflects effortless sophistication at its core.
To bump the look up a notch, the Duchess of Sussex added a Givenchy belt and clutch and simple black pumps from Sarah Flint.
There were however some changes to Markle’s vibe. Her normally super sleek strands were neither tied back into her cool-girl low chignon, nor were they in a glamorous blowout — but rather loose waves that added the perfect carefree-contrast to her super-structured outfit. Proof: you can take the girl out of California, but you can never really take the California out of the girl.
The Queen, on the other hand, also took a page out of her royal wedding playbook, wearing a lime green dress coat and hat similar to the she wore for the nuptials last month.
