Natalie Dormer’s Rock and Roll Princess Bun Is Surprisingly Simple to Recreate

A hairstyle made for a modern princess! For the final The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 premiere in L.A. on Monday, Nov. 16, Natalie Dormer chose a glamorous, multi-bun updo that matched the drama of her strapless Vivian Westwood ball gown.

Dormer’s hairstylist, Giannandrea, called the ‘do a “rock & roll princess back bun,” a perfect match for the Game of Thrones actress’ badass documentary filmmaker, Cressida, in the blockbuster series. “[It’s a] high pompadour styled updo with a feminine, rock & roll vibe and a back bun,” Giannandrea tells Us.

To create the style, the hairstylist began by applying Macadamia Professional Foaming Volumizer from her roots to her ends and blow-dried large sections with a large round brush to create lots of volume.

Giannandrea, who also works with Cindy Crawford and Gwyneth Paltrow, then worked a quarter-sized dollop of Macadamia Professional Whipped Detailing Cream throughout her tresses to create instant texture.

For the updo, the stylist teased Dormer’s hair at the crown, creating even more volume. He then took small to medium pieces of her hair and twisted them back, pinning each section in place to create the multi-bun design while leaving a few wispy pieces loose to frame her face. He twisted the rest of her hair into one large bun, pinning it in place, and then finished with a spritzing of hairspray.

Of course, the ‘do was only part of her standout beauty look. Dormer also modeled stunning lavender eye shadow — specifically the Votre Vu Palette Play in Violette, applied by Matthew VanLeeuwen. “I coordinated the shadow with the tone of the dress, which was rose gold and blue,” the celeb makeup artist tells Us. “Natalie walked the red carpet with understated elegance.”
