One up-and-coming star not only held her own among red carpet pros like Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet at Sunday's Emmy Awards, but she actually beat them out for the night's best dressed!

Clad in a stunning red strapless Donna Karan gown, Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev looked like an awards show veteran, despite having only stepped out at handful of high-profile events in her career. The actress paired the dress, which featured a sexy curve-hugging design and a pleated train, with sparkling Neil Lane jewels, a Judith Leiber clutch and Brian Atwood heels.

Making sure not to hide any detail of her gorgeous getup, the star sported side-parted, over-the-shoulder waves. Her hair pro, Riawna Capri of West Hollywood's Nine Zero One Salon using Wella Professionals, tells Us, "The dress was so beautifully powerful that we wanted a hairstyle that was not too 'done' — loose, soft and romantic."

"First I blew out her hair with Oribe Rock Hard Gel ($33, barneys.com) to give it lots of body and lift and set the hair in velcro rollers. Then, using a 1 1/4 curling iron (Fusion Tools Spring Iron, $58, salons), I curled and pinned her hair in all horizontal sections," says Capri. "After her makeup was done we dropped the pins, and brushed her hair off to one side. I lifted her bang area with a rattail comb and sprayed it with a strong holding spray: Wella Professionals Stay Firm Finishing Spray (available in salons). Then I finished with Unite Shina-Mist Spray (available in salons) to give her hair a radiant glow on the red carpet."

The finishing touches for the 22-year-old starlet's Pretty Woman-inspired ensemble: sultry, smoky eye makeup, glossy nude lips, and sculpted brows.

To recreate her makeup look, start by lining eyes with a black kohl eyeliner (try SEPHORA Collection Smoky Khol Eyeliner $12, sephora.com) and gently smudge out the lines with a q-tip. Apply the taupe shadow all over the lid and the crease, bringing the color up and out towards the browbone. Then, sweep the black shadow over the lid, closer to the lashline, and bring the color past the outer corner of the eye to create a wing. (Try Urban Decay Matte Eyeshadow in Naked and Perversion, $17 each, sephora.com.) Load up lashes with a volumizing mascara (try Maybelline New York Volum' Express Falsies Flared, $7.49, walgreens.com).

For lips, try a neutral color with a hint of sparkle like Charlotte Ronson A Perfect Kiss Lip Gloss in Eleanor ($14, sephora.com).
