Swinging ‘60s fashion!
Olivia Palermo has gone from being an MTV reality star to a heralded member of the fashion industry’s elite. Now, the 28-year-old newlywed has reached another milestone: cover-girl status for Net-A-Porter.com’s weekly fashion glossy, The Edit.
The throwback spread is set on a checkered tile floor, with the budding fashion icon wearing an array of ‘60s-inspired looks from bright leather skirt suits to pastel-colored cocoon coats. Palermo’s golden brown hair is styled in a high bun.
In this issue, the socialite dishes on the importance of always looking put together — starting with the details.
“As you get dressed, take a look to see if anything needs to be done,” Palermo advises. “I tend to go with the detailing. I have endless skinny belts. There is always a place for a big belt, but sometimes when you’re layering pieces you need to hide the belt and a skinny one does that.”
Palermo isn’t above using random odds and ends to get the job done, either.
“Take a razor blade to a sweater if it’s bobbling – it takes the balls off. Double-sided tape is also one of my favorites,” she said. “Oh, and if you want to roll your sleeves up and they won’t stay, push them up with very thin hair elastics.”
Although she constantly serves style inspiration, Palermo has decided to hold off on creating her own line.
“I would love to start my own [fashion] house, but it’s not the right time. I feel like I can do it in stages and when the timing is right to do it, then I will.”
For now, she’s focused on her latest project with footwear brand Aquazzura. “We wanted to create the shoes every woman wants in her wardrobe,” she said about the collaboration with brand founder Edgardo Osorio. “Edgardo and I both like a little toe cleavage, and [the heels] had to be high.”
