Va-va-voom! Saoirse Ronan sizzled from head to toe at the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 28, and Us Weekly has the exclusive on her sultry hairstyle.
“The style is a total departure for her,” celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel exclusively told Us Weekly. “It was really about finding the sensuality and sexuality, and [creating an] iconic moment for her. She’s not a kid anymore!”

To give the 21-year-old Ronan (who wore a plunging, emerald Calvin Klein Collection dress) a modern update from her most recent Oscars appearance in 2008, Abergel went for “effortlessness.” “What makes this look special is creating a texture that felt full and almost fluffy — really retro,” he shared. “It has a lot of movement and a life of its own, which is what creates the sexiness.”
To do that, Abergel started by applying John Frieda Luxurious Volume Perfectly Full Mousse to the roots of her towel-dried hair. He then blew out her hair with a medium-sized round brush, creative bouncy waves.

After that, the hair pro, who also works with Anne Hathaway and Reese Witherspoon, divided Ronan’s hair into two-inch sections and wrapped each one around a Velcro roller. He let them cool and set.
He spritzed her tresses with John Frieda Luxurious Volume Forever Full Hairspray and removed the rollers.
Abergel — who told Us that he and the actress spent the styling session listening to Rihanna — brushed through the curls for “soft, textured, sexy waves.” He back-combed the front pieces for height, and finished with one last spray of hairspray.
