She's making history!
It may be time for Rihanna to consider switching her nickname from Bad Gal RiRi to the Ultimate Game Changer. Right after teaming up with The Beatles' Paul McCartney on her hit record "FourFiveSeconds" with Kanye West, comes another feat for the pop icon — being named the newest face of Dior!
The French luxury brand confirmed to WWD on March 13, that Rihanna, 27, will appear in the fourth episode of the "Secret Garden" video series, which was shot this week by legendary fashion photographer Steven Klein in Versailles. Never in the French luxury brand's 69-year existence, have they tapped a woman of color to star in a campaign — until now.
The Barbados-born singer's appointment follows celebs including Jennifer Lawrence, Marion Cotillard, Charlize Theron, and Natalie Portman, who've all appeared in different Dior campaigns.
On Monday, March 16, the singer reflected on her historic opportunity. "It feels fantastic," she explained to MTV News. "It is such a big deal for me, for my culture, for a lot of young girls of any color." The star added, "I think to be acknowledged by Dior means a lot, as a woman, to feel beautiful — to feel elegant and timeless."
