Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe is arguably one of the most iconic in TV history, with her tulle skirts and sleek minidresses. Now, 15 years since Sex and the City has been on the air, Sarah Jessica Parker is revealing one fashion choice fans have always questioned.

In season 3 episode 13, Parker’s Bradshaw is seen walking alongside Kim Cattrall‘s character, Samantha Jones, and Cynthia Nixon‘s character, Miranda Hobbes, wearing a pair of mismatched Christian Louboutin sandal heels. With her left shoe blue and her right pink, many fans wondered what was going on. This includes the Instagram account Every Outfit on Sex & the City.

On Wednesday, June 26, the fan account posted a still from the episode, posing the burning question.

“Did Carrie buy these mismatched sandals straight off the rack? Or did she purchase two separate pairs and mix them together herself,” they wrote in the caption before getting real deep. “Are they a metaphor for her inability to choose between Aidan and Big?”

That’s when SJP came to the rescue. She responded in the comments to give a little behind-the-scenes glance at their styling decisions. And the answer was simple: it was a choice she and the costume designer Patricia Field made.

“Here is the official answer and I’m sure approved by the great and legendary @patriciafield,” she commented. “We had 2 pairs of what I believe are @louboutinworld scrappy sandals. Pat and I chose to do 1 of each. Perhaps because both were so delicious in color and seemed in harmony with the dress but also because we simply loved doing 1 of each. Sending my best. And hope this is a satisfactory answer.”

It’s more than satisfactory! As the Every Outfit on Sex and the City account put it, “the shoe god has spoken.”
