As if a funeral could get any sadder. Valentino is receiving a huge backlash after promoting one of their handbags on Friday, Feb. 7. Why the outcry? The fashion house specifically sent out a press release about the bag Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams wore — to Philip Seymour Hoffman's funeral.

"We are pleased to announce Amy Adams carrying the Valentino Garavani Rockstud Duble bag from the Spring/Summer 2014 collection on Feb. 6 in New York," the shameless press release read.

With the statement, a photo of a grieving Adams was attached, which showed her heading into the funeral in NYC with the $2,500 bag in hand.

Later that day, the fashion house tweeted an apology for sending out such an email. "We regret releasing a photo of Amy Adams with a Valentino bag. Unaware of the circumstances it was a mistake and we apologize to Ms. Adams."

The tasteless promotional ploy came on a day when Adams, 39, and several of her acting peers were mourning the loss of Hoffman, who tragically was found dead in his NYC apartment on Feb. 2 of an apparent heroin overdose. Stars who joined the American Hustle actress to remember the late star included Cate Blanchett, Joaquin Phoenix, Meryl Streep, Justin Theroux, and Michelle Williams

On Feb. 5, Adams couldn't control her emotions when asked about her Doubt and The Master costar during a pre-taped appearance on Inside the Actors Studio. "It hit a nerve with her. [She] was sobbing and couldn't finish most of her sentences," an insider told Us.

"Amy talked about how he was the greatest actor she had worked with, and couldn't even tell stories about him without crying," the eyewitness recalled. "She said to the audience of acting students 'I wish you all could have had the chance to work with him.'" (Sources tell Us Adams pulled out of additional television appearances so she would not have to speak about her late friend.)
