Whoop, there it is! Twenty-five years after her last appearance at the Academy Awards in 1991, Whoopi Goldberg made quite a statement in a glamorous Old Hollywood style gown at the 2016 Oscars.
“My dress was made by the Dames of New York. They’re a husband and wife team, built beautiful things,” the actress, 60, told E!’s Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet of her fabulous frock. “And they made this based on a dress that Bette Davis wore in All About Eve. So they made it for me the way they felt I should be wearing it.”
Goldberg’s homage to Davis’ fashion in the 1950 film is spot on. From the square pleated neckline to the bold black color, the four-time Oscars host’s ensemble is a dead ringer for the legendary screen siren’s. While she intentionally copied Davis’ look, Goldberg made sure to make it all her own — with some insanely chic jewelry.
“Sevan Biçakçi is the gentleman’s name who created this,” Goldberg said, pointing to her exquisite octopus-inspired ring on her right hand, while an intricate bracelet rested on her left wrist. Impressed by the bling, Seacrest, 41, noted that her choice in accessories were “not subtle.”
Goldberg then went on to explain that she chose to wear a simpler dress so her arm candy could shine. “The dress is subtle and my shoes are subtle and this is how you know it’s me,” she shared. “You know what I mean?”
The look is a slight contrast to the outfit she wore to the 63rd Academy Awards, where she eventually won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Ghost. At the time, the actress showed off her svelte frame in a black figure-hugging sequined column dress paired with pearls.
