Two-time Academy Award winner Ben Affleck is bare-faced once again! The Argo director, 40, shaved off his beard during a private, late-night Oscars after party at Craig's restaurant in West Hollywood, with wife Jennifer Garner, pal (and fellow Argo producer) George Clooney and other friends and colleagues egging him on, sources confirm to Us Weekly. (TMZ was first to report the momentous shave.)
"He did it himself at the restaurant," with help from pals, an insider tells Us of Affleck, who purposely grew out the scruff as his lucky charm for awards season. (Despite the Best Picture win, Affleck was famously snubbed in the Best Director category, where the Academy failed to acknowledge him with a nomination.) "The whole family was tired of the beard!" the source adds of Garner, 40 and kids Violet, 7, Seraphina, 4, and Sam, 12 months, plus other relatives. Indeed, his wife of seven-plus years "actually brought the clippers to the party."
Before the great shave-off -- which went down in a hallway, according to TMZ -- earlier in the evening of Feb. 24, Affleck joked to Garner, Clooney, 51 and love Stacy Keibler: "You don't want me to cut it off!"
During the bash at Craig's, things got "rowdy" with Clooney, Affleck and other revelers downing shots of Casamigos tequila, Clooney and pal Rande Gerber's brand.
"Ben and Jen were there for a long time -- that's where he could really celebrated with the whole Argo crew," another source says. "Ben was over the moon about the win and so happy."
