Drew Barrymore’s Favorite Thing About Makeup? ‘There’s No Mistake to Be Made’

A fitting motto for a flower child! Drew Barrymore said that when it comes to makeup, she loves that anything goes.

“You can be as wild and crazy or as demure and sort of traditional,” Barrymore, 41, shared inside the May 2016 issue of Good Housekeeping. “There’s no mistakes to be made with makeup. You get a free pass always with beauty because it’s an expression of your mood.”

The rules of fashion, she admitted, are a little trickier. “Whereas fashion can cut your body in weird ways, makeup doesn’t do that. It’s just to play, it’s just a moment, and you never really get in trouble for it,” she said.

The Flower founder, who posed for the issue covered in posies, also shared the one beauty trend she hopes will take off next. “What I want to see is an uncoiffed brow,” the Charlie’s Angels actress confessed. “We’ve had very large brows at play and a lot of products driven towards catering to brows. I want to see a wild brow, so a few outgrown, a few untamed in the lines.”

While Barrymore didn’t reference her split from Will Kopelman specifically (Us Weekly confirmed on April 1 that the couple separated), she did discuss her search for contentment. “Happiness is not this yellow, blithe, floating thing,” the mom of Olive, 3, and Frankie, 23 months, said. “It’s something that takes a tremendous amount of work. There’s a warrior aspect to being happy. You’ve got to fight for it. And only when you’ve got that kind of earned happiness is it really good.”
