No one perfects beachy, loose waves better than Khloe Kardashian, Jessica Alba and Sofia Vergara—and Us Weekly beauty director Gwen Flamberg turned to the hair gurus at New York City’s DreamDry salon to learn how to achieve their effortlessly chic look at home using tips straight from their stylist, Jen Atkin.
DreamDry, the blow dry salon co-owned by Rachel Zoe, commissioned Atkin to create a signature style called “The Stevie,” and during a recent visit to the hair mecca, DreamDry’s Olivia Halpin showed Flamberg how easy it is to add a touch of celeb glamour to your everyday beauty routine.
To start off creating the “Stevie” look, Halpin suggests working with freshly washed hair and applying a volumizing spray to the roots, along with a heat protectant to prevent breakage and shave off time while blow drying.
“We always see celebrities and wonder how they get such great volume. An easy way to do it at home is to use your hands and pull your hair straight up while blow drying and focus the air from the root to the end,” Halpin advises.
Once hair is mostly dry, section it off into thirds to work more easily. To maximize precious minutes while blow drying the sections, Halpin suggests using a medium ceramic round brush, which heats up like a curling iron and adds shine. Prior to using the actual curling iron to finish the ‘do, watch above as Halpin creates pin curls on Flamberg’s hair—a key element to the A-list coif.
