Colors, simple updos and the ever-omnipresent crop tops were all the rage at the Teen Choice Awards on Aug. 10 at the Shrine Auditorium in L.A.
Here, take a look at the hottest style and beauty trends from Sunday’s award show, plus how to steal the looks with expert tips.
Punchy Lips
Berry and rose-colored pouts on Taylor Swift and Cat Deeley added a fresh look to otherwise subdued makeup. The Giver’s Odeya Rush complemented her Monique Lhuillier dress with a subtly red lip. “I wanted a lip that looked bitten so I chose Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Melodiuse topped with Chanel Rouge Coco Baume Hydrating Conditioning Lip Balm,” celebrity makeup artist Jillian Dempsey tells Us Weekly. “It really completed the entire look!”
Crop Tops
Crop tops of varying lengths continued to rule the red carpet. Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian opted for shirts that bared just a hint of their stomachs, while Swift and Jordin Sparks went for bustier styles.
Braids and Ponytails
In place of elaborate updos or last summer’s go-to topknot, celebs like Shay Mitchell, in a braided side pony, and Sparks, in a curly haired pony, pulled their back.
Selena Gomez rocked a sleek center-parted pony, created by celebrity stylist Lona Vigi using John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Six Effects Serum. “This serum is like a BB cream for the hair,” Vigi tells Us. “It covers so many vital bases that you end up using multiple products for. Instead you can cut all of that out of the equation and just have this one master product.”
Smoky Eyes
Celebs like Chloe Grace Moretz and Lucy Hale played up their eyes with smoky makeup. “Chloe’s hair is down and natural so we went with a semi-smoky eye and light lips to play off of the dark colors that she’s wearing,” celeb makeup artist Mai Quynh tells Us. She smudged Votre Vu Le Joli Crayon in Charbon into the lash line and then applied it with a brush to the lid as a base. Quynh then mixed the two shimmery brown shadows from Votre Vu Palette Play in Nude and blended into the crease and on the bottom lash line. To finish, she applied Votre Vu Le Joli Crayon in Chablis to the bottom waterline and applied Votre Vu Eiffel Power mascara to the top lashes.
Hale added a sultry makeup look to her bright red Dior dress. “I knew Lucy’s eyes were going to be the main focus of her look,” celeb makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan tells Us. “We wanted to keep the eyes in earth tones to avoid any colors completing with the dress.” Deenihan wiped the reddish brown shadow from the Mark On the Dot Neutral Eye Color Compact over the lid and outward a bit to elongate the Pretty Little Liars star’s eyes. Then, she lined the top and bottom lashes with Mark On the Edge Hook Up Liquid Eyeliner in Bronze Edge. “On the top lash line, I added a slight wing to the outer corner to continue with the elongated smoky shape,” she says. After lining the top and bottom waterlines with Mark No Place to Run Waterproof Eyeliner in Jet Set, she added drama with a few coats of Mark Lash Act Build and Define Mascara in Blackest Black.
Brightly Colored Styles
The summer’s white out has receded with vibrant shades emerging. Swift wore a lime-green ensemble by Novis; Zendaya showed off her custom fuchsia Material Girl gown; and Bella Thorne glowed in a custom Candie’s for Kohl’s dress.
