Shay Mitchell

Shay Mitchell (born Shannon Ashley Garcia Mitchell) is an actress, entrepreneur and producer best known for playing Emily Fields on Pretty Little Liars. Mitchell was born in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, where she developed an interest in dance at a young age. As a teenager, she began modeling, working in cities including Bangkok, Hong Kong and Barcelona before returning to Toronto to study acting.

After landing small television roles on shows including Degrassi, Mitchell got her breakthrough in 2010 when she was cast as Emily Fields on Pretty Little Liars. The hit teen drama ran for seven seasons through 2017 and made her a household name. Her performance earned a Young Hollywood Award as part of the ensemble cast, as well as a People’s Choice Award nomination and multiple Teen Choice Award nominations. She later expanded her career with roles on shows like You, Dollface and Trese, while also serving as an executive producer on The Cleaning Lady. On the big screen, she’s appeared in films including The Possession of Hannah Grace (2018) and Something From Tiffany’s (2022).

Beyond acting, Mitchell has built a successful business career by founding the travel and lifestyle brand BÉIS. She also penned the novel Bliss in 2015.

Mitchell has been in a relationship with Matte Babel since 2017. The couple share two daughters, Atlas (born in 2019) and Rome (born in 2022).
