Born on December 22, 1989, in Phoenix, Arizona, Sparks is the daughter of NFL quarterback Phillippi Sparks.
The pop star skyrocketed to fame in 2007 when she became the youngest winner of American Idol at just 17. She released her debut single “Tattoo” in August 2007 and her self-titled debut album dropped in November of that year. Jordan’s hit collaboration with Chris Brown, “No Air,” was released in Feburuary 2008 and it reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. She followed that up with her third hit, “One Step at a Time” in June of that year.
Jordan released her second album, Battlefield, in July 2009. In August 2012, she made her acting debut opposite Whitney Houston in the music-centric drama Sparkle and has subsequently appeared in 2013’s The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete, the Lifetime movie Dear Santa and had a guest-starring role on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation that same year.
She released two more albums, Right Here Right Now and Side & Hennessy in 2015 and 2020, respectively.
Jordan made headlines in September 2008, when she defended the Jonas Brothers for wearing purity rings at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. At the time, she revealed that she has worn a promise ring since she was 13. Jordan publicly dated Jason Derulo from 2011 to 2014.
In July 2017, she married fitness model Dana Isaiah Thomas in Hawaii. The pair welcomed their first child, a son, in May 2018.
