Before wedding hockey player Mike Comrie this past weekend in Santa Barbara, Calif., Hilary Duff signed a prenup, reports the New York Post's Page Six.

Comrie's dad is the founder of a Canadian appliance and furniture empire, worth an estimated $500 million.

"It was a totally amicable agreement," an insider says. "They love each other very much and knew this was just a technicality."

Duff, 22, and Comrie, 29, who met at an Idaho resort, have dated since 2007 (before he popped the question earlier this year).

While dating Duff, Comrie wasn't shy about dropping bucks.

Shortly after they began seeing each other in 2007, he surprised her with a Mercedes-Benz G-class SUV as an early 20th birthday gift.

Duff's engagement ring also is worth a reported $1 million.

Despite his money, Duff told UsMagazine.com they have a surprisingly "natural" relationship.

"We both have busy jobs, and we're both very focused people, so that helps," she told Us. Said Comrie, "We have fun. We both live such different lives, but it's always fun to support each other and spend time when we get to."

Hahaha! All you people saying "I didn't sign a prenup"...hahaha! The average joe isn't worth millions either! I didn't sign one, cause neither me nor my husband had anything to loose. I mean, we had good jobs and homes but not millions! I think with that much money on the line, the divorce rate and the rate of Hollywood marriages? It wasn't a bad idea.

Very happy for her and Mike, at least she didn't screw up her life like someone else we know, not mentioning any names.

  • August 19, 2010 - 6:27am hmmm

She is one of the only Hollywood stars who looks like she has the perfect, normal weight! Not too skinny where you'll be a wrinkly bag in 20 years...but no extra fat either. She looks perfect and healthy.

I wonder why Mike and Hilary got married for when they are still not sure of each other and their marriage??? Why not just live 2gether or have a wedding then live 2gether without signing a marriage license? Because sooner or later, they will DIVORCE. By that, they don't have to sign a prenup. In Hollywoods, signing a prenup before marriage is too common but in real life for common people, it's DEFINITELY NOT. Unless both sides suggest it, otherwise, it's such a humiliation to be asked to do it. So if anyone wants me to marry them and then ask me to sign a prenup, then trust me, I would say NO. It's not that I am a golddigger but it's a feeling of being humiliated for not trusting me and our marriage. People can call me old-fashion or whatever but I've been married successfully for 30 years and of course without a prenup at the beginning.

Marriage is a covenant made with God. I hope these celebs take it seriously, and I wish Hillary and Mike all the best. Money isn't everything though, so I hope they both know what's really important in life. I so admire Hill for finding her mate so early in life. Its great if you're ready for it.

When Hilary and Mike's engagement news first broke, the ring was reported to be $300K. One day suddenly, the ring's price from $300K jumped up to $1M. After that, it kept jumping around from $300K then $400K then $1M. I don't know which one to believe. But from my own instinct, I believe the ring's price is $300K because Mike makes only $1M/year so it's stupid for him to propose a $1M ring to a cow he's already gotten for free for the past 3 years... Besides, Hilary has a reputation for showing off about her gifts from Mike. I've never heard anything like that from other celebs so it's kinda weird to hear about it all the time from a goold-girl-image Hilary Duff. She's never mentioned about her gifts to Mike. I am sure in order to get something, she would have to give back the same. There's no free lunch in this world, people!

I wondered how it seemed he had so much money being a hockey player. It's daddy's money. Guess Mike still gets an allowance! And prenups ARE necessary. I ever re-marry and have a ton of money, better believe he's signing one! Money and love must be kept seperate, otherwise the marriage is in trouble to start.

@Nunya: Mike is the heir to his dad's fortune. If something should happen to his dad, and the marriage dissolves, she could take half if there wasn't a prenup.

  • August 18, 2010 - 6:49pm Nunya

Why would Mike need a pre-nup to protect his dad's money? Hilary isn't marrying his dad!
