Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev: No Longer a Vegetarian
Nina Dobrev's stint as a vegetarian didn't last very long.
In the first-ever Seventeen Fitness special issue (on stands May 3), the 22-year-old Vampire Diaries star admits it was hard to go meatless.

"At the end of last year, I tried being a vegetarian for four months, and after awhile, I started feeling weak, like I needed more protein, more energy," she says. "Then I read a review of an episode of The Vampire Diaries online, and in it the writer mentioned that I was looking too thin. I was like, 'Okay, maybe they're right.' It made me think: I need a burger -- a beef burger, not a soy burger."
Still, the Canadian-born star appreciates those who lead a vegetarian lifestyle.

"I have so much respect for vegetarians and I'm so glad I tried it," she says, "but it just didn't work out for me."
Dobrev, who was a competitive gymnast before becoming an actress, learned a valuable lesson from the experience.

"I've realized skinny isn't necessarily attractive," she tells the mag. "Guys like girls with curves."
As for what she likes most in a guy? "I like the Chris Pines and the Ryan Goslings -- those types who are fit but not too fit. I'm attracted to the low-maintenance, touseled-but-happens-to-still-look-amazing guy. I like effortless. A guy who wears track pants, a T-shirt and a hat and can still be causal. Not the 'How much can you lift?' kind of guy. That doesn't matter to met at all!"

14Everyone's bodies works differently. Nina is not necessarily wrong in her OPINION. She didn't say there was anything wrong with being a vegetarian, nor did she say everyone should eat meat. She said what was right for HER. Might not be right for you and me, but if it works for her, what of it?
ahahhaha..someone is mad at me.. my friend in the office is a vegetarian..and very skinny..and she was hospitalized two months ago because lack of proper nutrition and the doctor suggested her so bad to eat MEAT!!!..ahahahhaha.. aww im so healthy, awww because im a vegan..but awww im so f*kin fat.. pathetic!
Linley, please shut up. You sound pompous and full of yourself. You're fat because a lot of vegetarians are fat from being passive and eating too much of the wrong foods to make up for the lack of meat and fish. I happen to know plenty of people who eat meat who also do not get sick easily and plenty of vegetarians who do, not to mention all the ugly marks on their bodies that vegans have from lack of proper nutrition.
and lets get something straight the only reason i am overwheight is because i NEVER watch what i eat and I NEVER work out. Being a vegetarian has NOT made me overwieght and im only about 15 pnds over what i should be, majority of the obese ppl out there are meat eaters.
Actually Tyagita i do feel REALLY special being a Vegetarian when every meat eater in my office has the flu and i dont catch a single symptom. So go ahead and stuff your face with Big Macs i WONT be seeing you at the doc office! :) and try a holistic doctor that they will tell you the complete opposite...just like a teacher not EVERY doctor is right... ever heard of a 2nd opinion? Check out the new movie Forks Over Knives - it was on Dr Oz the other day. Just open your mind & do your own research. If you, or anyone in your family is suffering from health problems (cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc) watch this movie!!
Tyagita - it's not about feeling 'special' as a vegetarian, it's about a healthy way of life that has been proven. Newsflash, a lot of people can eat whatever they want when they're YOUNG, but why do you think so many people have health issues in their 40's and beyond? If you think skinny people don't drop dead of a heart attack, I suggest you do some research. Meat, ALL meat is full of saturated fat, which is what clogs your arteries. But go ahead and cram those Big Mac's down your throat, come talk to us in 20-30 years when you're at the dr's office every week!
God created the animals and allow us to eat meat because there are great benefits contained in a piece of meat. my friends experienced pain during menstrual periods, and doctors said that she shortage of red meat, and she is a vegetarian. we have different stamina and endurance of our body , perhaps nina's body can not or has not been able to adapt to the intake of vegetarians. dont feelin so special being a vegetarian linley! i am slim like nina and i can still enjoying Big Mac!!
Thanks Brittany, good advice, i do eat a lot of sugar... ill have to try to cut it out :)
Linley he was only vegetarian the last year of his life. VEGETARIAN not vegan
Linely, you mentioned being o/weight - I think you look fine, but one thing I've learned is that sugar is a huge problem and even natural sugar in fruit. If you want to lose weight relatively fast, cut your sugar grams to less than 20 a day. This includes ALL types of sugar, fruit, honey, etc. Since I've started counting sugar grams I haven't had to worry about my weight since. it's amazing too how much sugar is in everything once you start reading labels, for example look at how much sugar is in almond milk! A lot, but they make an unsweetened one that I use now. Give it a try!
Linley is right, there are a lot of misconceptions put out there by the meat industry about being vegan/vegetarian. Nina was feeling weak because she wasn't eating the right amount of protein or food in general, and this is a common mistake. I've been a vegetarian for five years+ and haven't had so much as a cold. Used to get horrible headaches, those went away too. Do the research, try it for even a week and see the difference. Eat the RIGHT way and it works, it's amazing, you'll have so much energy you won't know what to do with it.
DONT LISTEN TO NINA SHE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT i hate when people in high postions say things and have no idea what they are talking about. There are a lot of BIG misconceptions about being a vegetarian/vegan (yes there is a diff)like being tired or losing weight or becoming weak or being overall less healthy. Vegetarian Diet was approved by the ADA as being substantial for ALL stages of life. NINA obviously you werent exploring ALL of your options i have been vegetarian for almost my whole life i have NEVER felt weak or tired and i am actually overweight at the moment. i DO NOT get sick if i feel any syptoms its maybe some congestion for a day or 2 at most. There are cancers realted straight to meat. Einstein the smartest man in the world was a vegan...think about it
