Busy Philipps looked to the skies in naming her first daughter, Birdie, but for her second daughter — whom she welcomed into the world earlier this month — she found inspiration a little closer to earth. A rep for the Cougar Town actress and new mom confirms to Us Weekly that she and husband Marc Silverstein have chosen the moniker Cricket for their little bundle of joy.
As Us Weekly previously reported, Philipps gave birth to Cricket on July 2. "Everyone is healthy and happy," her rep told Us at the time, noting that the baby weighed in at a little more than 8 pounds.
Philipps herself tweeted the news on July 3, writing, "So this happened…" alongside a blurry but beautiful picture of the newborn resting on her chest. (She used the same words, along with a photo of a positive pregnancy test, to announce in December that she was expecting.)
One week later, on Wednesday, July 10, the Dawson's Creek alum was spotted for the first time since giving birth. Wearing flip-flops, sunglasses, and a striped dress cinched at the waist with a red, braided belt, the mom of two stepped out in Hollywood, Calif.
Speaking to Us about the pregnancy earlier this year, Philipps said she was focused on helping Birdie adjust to becoming a big sister. "She talks to the baby and she's just really thrilled," the actress explained. "I told her, though, that it's okay to feel two ways about it. It's okay to feel really excited and also nervous or mad or scared. I don't want her to think she has to be super happy about it all the time because I know it's going to be…a big adjustment for her."
"We'll see what happens when the actual baby comes," she joked. "I'm planning for that moment when she asks, 'When does she go back?'"
