Days after revealing she suffered a miscarriage, British singer Lily Allen is being treated for the potentially lethal blood poisoning condition septicaemia.

"She is responding well to treatment and her condition continues to improve," a rep for Allen, 25, told the U.K.'s Daily Mail after she was rushed to the hospital Friday evening. "Lily thanks everyone for their messages of support and again asks that she and partner Sam Cooper be left alone whilst she recovers."

The bacterial blood condition can develop into septic shock if untreated.

Allen's hospitalization comes five days after it was confirmed the six-months-pregnant singer had lost her baby. Nearly three years ago, she had a miscarriage during her relationship with musician Ed Simons.

Allen has said having children is "ultimately my main goal" in life.

6 months pregnant is not a miscarriage... it is a still birth. My heart breaks for having to deal with this in the public eye. I dealt with an early term miscarriage in private and it incredibly humbled me. My prayers to her and her family.

I feel sooo bad for Lily. I've had two misscarriages myself and they are devestating! I cannot imagine losing one so far along in the pregnancy too. Hopefully the third time will be the charm for her too and she gets the healthy baby she truly wants to have. Hope the blood poisoning condition improves for her!

"...though an Oscar winning actress is different than a singer by a long shot..." I don't understand what you mean either then...how is that not comparing careers vs their level of grief and loss. Sounds like because Loren is the bigger more prolific career that her grief was worse or more important/newsworthy than Allen's. Thank you for qualifying your remarks. Guess it was just phrased oddly.

I wasn't trying to slam Lily at all in my last post. the example wasn't meant to be taken negatively but as if she's carefully the next time she conceives than she'll have the healthy happy child she's always wanted

Get well soon Lily. Your body will heal faster than your heart and soul.

poor kid, idk care what she does/done. a miscarriage is a hard thing, mental and physically, to go through. she doesn't need any negativity or to be slammed. Hope she's able to have a healthy baby one day

I'm more surprised at how Courtney's initially thoughtful post devolved into slamming Lily for being just a singer over Sophia Loren's being an actress. WTH does that have to do with anything? You were on a roll there...for a second. Prayers to Lily Allen, period!

Diane- Would you be less sad to lose a child if there was an explanation for it? Or are you suggesting that it's her own fault she's miscarrying? In either case, I am apalled at you. She may have an incompetant cervix or one or many other conditions that are not her fault. People, including myself, also have unexplained repeated miscarriages. They are not the fault of anything the mother does and I won't have anyone suggest otherwise. There are millions of women in this world who have gone through this; how dare you belittle them and try to diminish what they have suffered?

this is sad, it's the second miscarriage she's had. she was pregnant a few years ago.

  • November 06, 2010 - 3:54pm Courtney Puzzo

yes it could very much have to do with left over tissue from the pregnancy that got infected. just cause she isn't carrying to term now doesn't mean she won't in the future if put on complete bed rest as for example Sophia Loren was for her two successful pregnancies after her first two had ended in miscarriages not much different than Lily's though an oscar winning actress is different than a singer by a long shot.

Does this blood condition have anything to do with Loosing her precious little boy? Im 5 1/2 months pregnant and I couldnt imagine loosing my little guy. My heart goes out to her at this time and I wish her all the best

  • November 06, 2010 - 3:26pm Diane Stadtherr

As sad as this is, there's a reason why she's not carrying to term.
