Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have taken to Twitter to gush about their newborn son Sparrow.
"What a great day to come back on Twitter," Richie, 27, writes. "Thank you everyone for your well wishes. I love my family!!"

Madden, 30, is equally excited.
"1st day of his life & my son is already a trending topic on twitter," he Twitters. "That's right son, ur just like your old man."

Sparrow James Midnight Madden - who weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz. - was born in the middle of the night early Wednesday morning. The boy joins older sister Harlow Winter Kate Madden, who was born in January 2008.
After giving birth, Richie wrote on her website: "Nicole, Joel, Harlow and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes."

60I am not surprised at all. It is not "normal" anymore to be a celebrity and name you child a "normal" name. And I dont like the name.
what a shame NIcole isnt smart enough to name her baby something normal..that the child wont have to defend all his life..The baby when grown will probably have his own name(nickname) Sparrow..ridiculous..anything to get ahead of the JOnes of that's what you call it..to be ABSURDLY different is just plain PUBLICITY!

to anonymous 6:15 and 6:20...i highly doubt sparrow will be going to public school where kids are mean...my guess is they will be in private or home schooling with tutors...and also do not forget that there are worse celebrity baby names out there! rachel griffith's son banjo, jason lee's son pilot inspector (love jason lee but still give the ol' hairy eyeball to son's name) and still taking the cake as most jack up name would be shannon sossamon's child, audio science...how do you think he feels??? could be worse, could be the son of david duchovny and tea leoni and have to go by kyd! tops the chart of least original!

I don't understand how this can be news? Having a baby and giving him a "gay" name. These two parents are losers. Shame on them for giving their child such a "wasted" name. This child is already cursed. They did it too keep their names in magazines. This couple is yesterday's news.
I love the name Sparrow and Midnight...what if he goes by "Midnight Madden", doesn't that sound cool? I also love Harlow Winter's name. It's much better than having a plain name that everyone has. I wish my name was as cool as theirs! They seem like great loving parents and they are young and chic, than names suite their family.
