Congratulations are in order for Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, who welcomed their first child -- a boy! -- together over the weekend.
"Penelope and Javier welcomed their first son into their family last week," Cruz's rep confirms to UsMagazine.com. "Both parents and baby are doing great."

According to Spanish newspaper El Pais, the infant was born at Cedars Sinai Hospital in L.A.; Spanish magazine Hola broke news of the baby's gender. Hola also reports that members of the couple's family flew in from Spain for the birth: Cruz's mother, brother and sister, plus Bardem's mother.

Cruz, 36, first debuted her baby bump while shooting Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in Puerto Rico last September -- just two months after she secretly tied the knot with Bardem, her Vicky Cristina Barcelona costar.
"He's a friend and the best actor in the world," Cruz has said of Bardem, 41.
Another reason to celebrate? On Tuesday, Bardem scored his third Oscar nomination for his performance in Biutiful.

21congratulations beatifull Penelope
Thank you everyone for helping me clear this up. Guess I misunderstood some things....Seriously though regardless if the US grants citizenship instantly it has to be wanted and something tells me this wouldn't be the case here. But again and I am serious thank you for setting me straight.
@Kjersti - I really think you should do a bit of research before you make comments or at least KNOW what you are talking about before you say something untrue. So here are some facts for you - 1. Babies born in US are automatically made US citizens, no matter if their parents are from another country. - 2. The US has recently been more relax and DO recognize dual citizenships but ONLY with a certain list of countries. AND 3. Italy has a protection program that makes children born in their country the citizens of their PARENTS country, which is why your son was not made a citizen.
congratulations! I love her so much..
Kjersti, yes very true. When the parents don't live in the US they are called anchor babies. EVERY BABY born in the US IS an American citizen. You may have had your baby in Italy but he is not an Italian citizen because Italy doesn't have the same law as the US. If you still do not believe me try looking up the 14th Amendment.
Congrats
Biutiful & Congrats!!! :)
Butiful!!! & Congats!!! :)
Not true just because someone from another country gives birth to their baby here doesn't automatically make them a US citizen. Yes this is a hot button topic, but Penelope and Javier don't live here they work here and most likely will choose Spanish citizenship for their child. I had my son in Italy doesn't make him italian, all it means is his birth certificate is issued by the state dept. And correct me if I am wrong I do not think this country recongizes dual citizenship.
that's not true Elizabeth Taylor and her eldest son Mike Wilding Jr both have dual citizenship because they were born in england. different countries have different citizenship rules. as long as parents and child are healthy citizenship rules are a minor thing for movie stars. can't wait to hear what they named him hopefully it's not something to whaky like some hollywood stars do
bet that baby is sooo cute b/c they are a Gorgeous Couple!
No matter where this child was born, I'd like to wish them all the best.
Kjersti, any baby born in the United States is automatically a citizen.
Congrats to them!!! the most beautiful couple and now the most beautiful little family!
Congratulations!!!
Luv these two. Congrats! Hope they give baby a beautiful Spanish name, like Javier.
@Sty Hate to burst your bubble but just because I had my child in Italy doesn't make him a Italian citizen. They aren't the first to have their child in another country because gasp that is where they were at the time of birth but child is a citizen of the country the parents are from.
@sty moore..you are an idiot!..If they choose the U.S, is non of your business!. I think that you are only a citizen because somehow your illegal white parents came from some country and you got birthright citizenship..? maybe your grannies you've stay illegally adn you would be all considered an illegal..oops i forgot u 'people' make up the rules here....dont worry, good thing is unconstitutional!
Sty...it shows how little you know about Europeans. Penelope's and Javier's child will probably hold a European passport because both of his parents are from Spain, a country in Europe. Javier and Penelope are in the U.S. on business, not because they want their child to have U.S. citizenship. Your comment only shows how provincial and narrow minded you are. Not everyone in the world wants American citizenship. Geesh!
I just love her... congratulations!
