Video: Teen Mom's Maci: Ex Ryan Thinks Child Support Is a "Joke"

Celebrity Moms July 5, 2011 AT 9:21AM

Pay up, or else!

That's the lesson Teen Mom's Maci Bookout learns on Tuesday's season premiere when she finds out her ex, Ryan Edwards, could go to jail if he continues to skip out on their son Bentley's child support payments.

VIDEO: Teen Mom's most shocking moments

As the above preview clip shows, when the 19-year-old single mom calls the child support agency to inquire about a missed deposit, she gets a rude awakening when it comes to unemployed Edwards.

"When someone has been receiving unemployment, that doesn't mean they can stop paying child support," the agent tells Bookout. "If payments aren't coming in, we can file a contempt with the court, which typically means community service and, in most cases, six months in jail or a large lump sum payment."

Later, a shocked Bookout calls a pal to report her findings. "Can you get me a new baby-daddy?" she asks. "After 45 days [without payment], he has to go to jail. I just don't understand how he thinks child support is a joke. What about when Bentley's, like, eight, and he [asks] if dad's ever been to jail. I'll have to [say] 'yes, because he didn't pay up.'"

Find out if Edwards forks over the funds when Teen Mom premieres Tuesday at 10 p.m. (EST) on MTV.

and apparently US magazine jumps to ridiculous conclusions about peoples characters according to MTV's editing styles

he did pay child support. It was the bank who messed up with the direct deposit into macis account MTV just wants to make all teen fathers look like idiots lol

As I look at some of the comments I have to laugh at myself @Kim really a piss poor choice...yes it was, but what fault are you laying on the father, is he not responsible for any of this? You can go into any relationship thinking you are with a good sound person, but when they are faced with something like this...isnt there always a chance they will run. My daugther's father is 15K behind in support....won't get a job so he dosent have to pay support...but when I was dating him, he worked and seemed to be a good man until he was faced with me being pregnant..while myself on the other hand..continued working, raising my daugther, and going to school (now working on a masters degree)

@Becky Dowling- Have you ever watched the show... They give you a website to go to on more information on how to prevent teen pregnancy... Isn't that good enough? This show is NOT promoting teen pregnancy, they are showing you a glimpse at what life with a child is like... And it has taught a lot of girls to stay protected...

Lyndsey, I get that. For some, it can be prevented by the choices you make. Pick a good father, a working father, someone who has something to offer and provide for a child. I understand there are some circumstances but it's about being smart and choosing wisely. Macy is a GREAT mother but her choice was p!ss poor. So, yes...who's fault is it? Hers!

I couldn't have said it better @Lyndsey Alicia.

@ Kim Novak Non payment of child support can happen to anyone. It has nothing to do with KIDS having KIDS. Geez! Im pretty sure that you are not a virgin and have had premarital sex, you just didnt get caught. You could find the perfect man, get married, have babies and then get divorced and he won't oay child support on time. Leave Maci alone everyone makes mistakes and she is learning from them.

Ummmmm No, it will be his paycheck that is the joke. Ba-ha-ha-ha-ha.

@Kim Novack - You think only kids skip out on paying child support? You have a lot to learn about the world. My ex-husband is 44, and until a few months ago, he wasn't paying child support either. Now he only pays $240 a month because he games the system and works part-time and does the rest off the books (which I know but can't prove) while going to online school and collecting welfare (PA is the easiest state to con to get welfare). You think only kids are deadbeats? Think again. They can be a deadbeat at any age.

The way that I see it is that child support is no joke regardless on the age you are when you have children and further more I think this is a great show and it teach's girls what it is like to have kids so young and how hard it is I commend these girls for what they are doing...

He's a joke, she's a joke, and this show is a joke. Leave it to MTV. There should be a birth control announcement before every show, and during. If their motive is to show teens how rough it is, they should have no problem doing that.

My father thought child support was a joke too, now he doesn't have a daughter who'll speak to him. My brother thinks it's a joke too and now he not only has a sister who won't speak to him, but two kids who write all over their Facebook pages how much they hate him.

  • July 05, 2011 - 11:04am Kim Novak

This is what happens when KIDS are having KIDS! Choose wisely or reap what you sow!

  • July 05, 2011 - 10:47am Janet Hobbs

Send Ryan to jail Macy if he isn't paying child support.
