Why Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi Don't Want Kids

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are madly in love, but they aren't keen on the idea of starting a family.

"People are constantly asking Portia and me if we are going to have children," DeGeneres, 53, writes in her third book, Seriously...I'm Kidding (out now). "We thought about it. We love to be around children after they've been fed and bathed. But we ultimately decided that we don't want children of our own. There is far too much glass in our house."
All kidding aside, DeGeneres says she and her wife, 38, have plenty of others to look after.
"We have two dogs, Mabel and Wolf, and three cats at home, Charlie, George and Chairman. We have two cats on our farm, Tom and Little Sister, two horses, and two mini horses, Hannah and Tricky. We also have two cows, Holy and Madonna," DeGeneres writes. "And those are only the animals we let sleep in our bed."
DeGeneres and de Rossi wed at their home in the summer of 2008, during the brief period when same-sex marriage was legal in California.

70I like them they are a wonderful couple .. two really great gals .. I think the decison to not have children is a personal choice that should be between the couple them selves and not anyone elseâ??s buisness to cast opinions on ..Some people just don't have the patience for handling and raising children the same goes with pets as well.. There are people who prefer to have pets then children or perfer to have children then pets or choose to have both!! Not every one is meant to become a parent or a pet owner .. That doesnâ??t mean that they hate children or animals or that they are mean to animals or children.. They just donâ??t have the patience to have them in their lives on a daily basis by being a parent or a pet owner .. They are not bad people they just know what they want in life .. I have to say atleast Portia and Ellen donâ??t have to worry about unwanted or unplanned pregnancies.
@Sonya -- They are MARRIED, period! Don't ever to judged to anyone! I am proud gay. We are all the same rights as everyone as straight, gay, couples, etc.. Love is Love.. Peace!!!!!!!! Ellen cares about everyone even though she NEVER judged to anyone!! Doesn't matter if they wanted some kids or not by gay, n straight either unmarried or married, etc so it's up to anyone's decisions.. Give us a break! Get a life. I believe in God/Jesus n me only, not to others cuz I don't judged anyone. As long as anyone can be HAPPPPPPPY.
I'm all for people having their own opinions about things, but if you're going to just be a b**** about it, you should just not say anything. If you're a Christian, shouldn't you be trying to be NICE instead of putting people down? Their relationship has nothing to do with you, so why do you care so much? If you're not gay, good for you. I'm not either; but some people are. So deal with it!

That happened to one of my friends one time...don't worry there's help for that, you can still get help and be a decent human being (before you ruin your and your family's lives with your beliefs on the mythical being(s) you say told you it's a choice to be homo)

Homosexuality is a choice. As a born again Christian, I don't believe that people are born as homosexuals.I believe that they choose to live their lives in this way. All I have to say about all of this is that they will have to answer to God for their choices on judgement day!!! We will let God pass his judgement, bc we are not to pass judement on other. The Bible says, judge not lest ye be judged!!!
They don't need to have children, bc God intended for man and woman to have children together, not 2 women. Same sex relationships are wrong in the eyes of the Lord. Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13.

I agree with them, if they feel they can*t do it not up to it, then it*s their choice not to do it. Finaly some responsible people! I love that they take care of animals, I also have some cats inside and outside the home and I take care of them, They add up and it comes as a lot of work...

Who really knew Jesus' sexual orientation? Maybe that is why he never spoke of homosexuality. To many of us, he was not a deity but a teacher of love and understanding. Because of this, he could be considered a teacher of liberal Judaism and that led to his tolerance for all (see (Leviticus 19:18)
@Amanda and other Christians not like me: Jesus said nothing about homosexuality. The old testament has many other so-called rules we would never obey today, like "stoning a rebellious son." You can't just cherry pick the bible. Gays are born gay. If someone "choses" to be in a gay relationship, but aren't naturally gay, then that is a choice, ie. Angelina Jolie chose to be in a lesbian relationship once, but she married a man, thus she is naturally hetero, she went back to nature. You can't judge how gays like Ellen and Portia feel. You can't force them to want to love and be with men. To them, that is like you and I forcing ourselves to be attracted to and wanting to marry a woman. True homosexuality is NOT a choice. Plus, Amanda, the 10 commandments say nothing about homosexuality, so stop saying they have anything to do with this matter. On the note of Ellen and Portia not having kids, that truly is a choice for any couple, gay or straight, and should be respected.
what they're saying is that their happy with their life style nothing wrong with that, and their is the age difference for the children, need to young to be a parent chasing your kids talking to them and most all listening to them!!!
Absolutely nothing wrong with not having or wanting children. So many children conceived simply because birth control was not practiced, and no decision had even been made as to be pregnant. So many unwanted or neglected children, so many with no dads around to help. I give anyone credit who is adult, and unselfish enough to make a wise decision.

They ARE a family. A FAMILY OF TWO AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT! Not everyone wants to raise children. Not everyone gets fulfillment from having children be in their every day lives. Good Grief. Why are folks concerned with that they do with their uteri?
