Pop star Anastacia is coming clean with an issue that is "particularly close" to her heart. The "I'm Outta Love" singer revealed in an announcement on Tuesday, Oct. 1, that she underwent a double mastectomy earlier this year after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
"I was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time earlier this year and am currently in the final stages of recovery after undergoing a double mastectomy," she said in the statement. "It has been an intense journey but I am feeling great and ready to start the next chapter."
The 45-year-old singer pulled the plug on her European tour immediately following her February diagnosis. She was previously diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 during a routine checkup.
"My doctor was insistent that I have a mammogram even though it was not required," she told Philly.com at the time. "He saved my life!"
"Breast Cancer Awareness Month gives all who are facing this disease a chance to gain strength and support from each other," she said in the statement. "Early detection has saved my life twice. I will continue to battle and lend my voice in any way I can."
Anastacia is only the latest celebrity to go public about her very tough decision -- earlier this year, Angelina Jolie revealed that she had the procedure done in May as a preventative measure since the women in her family have a genetic predisposition to the disease.
"I've had cancer before, and I didn't want to live under that cloud … The odds are not in my favor," Osbourne told Britain's Hello! magazine last November. The Talk host also previously battled colon cancer more than a decade ago. "I decided to take everything off, and had a double mastectomy."
