This party will have to do without Anna. As previously reported, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour politely had to decline an invitation to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's Florence, Italy nuptials. Now, it's been revealed that she simply just had a prior obligation to attend to.
"Anna had a longstanding family commitment this weekend and sadly had to miss the wedding," a Vogue spokeswoman told Page Six of Wintour. (Despite her absence, Vogue's Andre Leon Talley has been on hand to cover Kardashian and West's wedding weekend.)
Wintour, of course, worked with Kardashian, 33, and West, 36, this year as the soon-to-be husband and wife were featured on the cover of Vogue's April issue last month. At the time, she explained in detail why she chose the couple to grace the coveted fashion bible.
"Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it," she wrote in the issue's editor's letter. "I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?)"
"As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancee on Vogue's cover. He did nothing of the sort," she continued. "The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn't true." (The couple most recently attended Wintour's Met Gala in NYC earlier this month.)
Although Wintour won't be in attendance, Kimye has been surrounded by close family and friends during their extravagant Europe weekend so far in Paris, France. Their guests—including Jay Z, John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, and Serena Williams—will soon be arriving today to Florence's Forte de Belvedere for the wedding spectacle.
