Billy Joel: Daughter Suffered "Devastating Heartbreak"

Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley are slamming false reports about their daughter Alexa Ray Joel's recent hospitalization.
"Every parent can imagine the pain and anguish we face as parents of a daughter who is working to recover from the dangerous actions she took while suffering a devastating heartbreak," they say in the joint statement.

"As much as we hate dignifying tabloid stories with a response, we feel we must set the record straight to protect our family. The story that ran in the New York Post on December 8th, and has been subsequently spread across the internet, is filled with vicious lies and attempts to smear our character and that of our beloved daughter.

"We ask the public and legitimate media outlets to please 'consider the source' and to not further exacerbate our daughter's situation by repeating and legitimizing these false reports," the statement concluded.

I am not sure why people are so cruel on this site like it costs them to have a little compassion. No matter what the cause for the alleged depression or suicide attempt, a person is going through something difficult at this moment. If Alexa was depressed and attempted suicide, I pray for her recovery.
@ B: I will LOL all I want, especially when this waste finally does off herself because of this "depression". Comparing depression to cancer and acting as if depression is harder to deal with than cancer is so stupid.
I think it is SO SAD that there are so many critical comments out there. Thank GOD for the few who showed compassion. I want to wish Alexa and her parents togetherness at this time of year.
In a few years she won't believe she took such drastic steps over some guy. A wonderful future is waiting her and I'm glad she survived to live it.
No matter what the circumstances may be, its sad that this woman felt so badly that she would do something like this. I hope she has a lot of friends and family that can give her the help and support she needs. What ever the situation, she needs to be around people who love and support her. Give her a break, no matter how easy her life may seam to some, no one knows what goes on when no one else is looking.
So she got her heart broken by a guy, it won't be the first or the last, time to grow up bug eyes and act like an adult, mama and daddy were not and are not good examples for you, and you are stuipd for trying to kill yourself over a man...
She is like anyone that had a man that break her heart..Alexa he is so not worthy..Take your time and find a good man..Stay well

she has a mom that couldnt keep a man faithful to her and a dad that couldnt keep a wife loyal and dont want to be together at all. Maybe billy and christie should hook up a again. Then their kid wouldnt be so miserable.

Lol that is what you call tough times?? A boyfriend breaking up with you is not what should be considered "tough times". She is 23, did she really think she was going to marry this guy? I think she is just a selfish girl who thinks that the world revolves around her. She needs to get a clue and see that there are people out there suffering much worse during these terrible times. TO kill yourself over a guy is just pathetic!
Good to hear Alexa is doing better now :) No parent wants to get the call that their child has been admitted to the hospital for any reason and I can't imagine what must have been going through their minds when they got there. The media is only making the situation worse by continuing to report on this and I don't blame her parents for wanting to make a statement. What parent wouldn't want to protect their child?
CORRECTION: Hopfully the parents are NOT using this "heartbreak" as an excuse not to deal with much deeper issues.
